  Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is there a cost associated with using midwifery care?
No. In 1994, midwifery became an integrated part of the Ontario healthcare system and is provided free of charge.

  2. Do I need an obstetrician as well as a midwife to deliver a healthy baby?
No. Diversity Midwives provides all the care necessary for a healthy woman and her baby throughout pregnancy, birth and for six weeks afterward.

  3. Do I need a referral to see a midwife?
No. A referral is not necessary to apply for midwifery services.

  4. How do I apply for a midwife at Diversity Midwives?
Contact Diversity Midwives and the practice administrator, Donna Parker, will conduct a brief intake interview with you. Providing your pregnancy is within the scope of midwifery care and there is space available in your birth month, Donna will schedule you to attend a private Information Session at the practice. Consequently, we ask that you advise the practice within seven days of your intention to proceed with midwifery care.
